Conclusion on produced artifacts

Both jpeg and wavelets produce artifacts at very low bit rate. The articfacts produced by jpeg are related to the division in 8x8 blocks, and the difference in the way the frequency contents of the different block is captured in the different blocks.

Wavelet transform produces artifacts in the form of "smearing" of egdes and unifirm regions when signigicant coefficients that determined the boundary between regions were ignored.
